Hearing about what God is doing in the world is the best way to get students out of their seats and entering mission. Last weekend we launched our mission project through Life in Abundance International (www.liaint.org), a Christian development organization that works primarily in Africa to support Churches as they build sustainable structures in their community. This is primarily accomplished through schooling, economic development (micro-loans), medical care, and leadership development.
One of the things that I like most about this organization is that it was started by Africans. This is not an enterprise that was initiated by Western businessmen (although there isn't anything wrong with that), but this was started entirely by an African community and then spread to the States. It's stories like this that get me excited about the next generation of mission organizations resisting colonialist tendencies.
LIA International in the United States is a budding organization, but they are savvy, grassroots, and thoroughly Kingdom minded. I expect to see and hear great things from this emerging organization!
Step out and help your students enter mission in your junior high ministry. Life in Abundance International could be a great vehicle for the Holy Spirit to move in a missional way with your faith community!
